BEd no longer valid to become a teacher in a government school! ITEP course is compulsory, know details

A 4-year BEd program will be started in a pilot project in 41 universities for the academic year 2023-24.

What is ITEP Course: After the order of the Supreme Court, BEd course is no longer considered valid for becoming a teacher in a government school. Now it is more necessary to do ITEP course to become a teacher. This course is designed by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). In 2020 NEP starts 4 year BEd program keeping in view the recommendation of NCTE. Which is named Integrated Teachers Education Program (ITEP). Only after this 4 year course, teachers will be recruited through ITEP course after 2030. which will be considered as necessary qualification.

ITEP will be made compulsory

          After this the BEd course will be started academically only. Post graduate or Phd can be done after studying it. ITEP course will be started in BEd colleges from next academic year itself. An important thing is that the National Education Policy will be implemented from primary education to higher education in the near future. Apart from this, many changes will also be made in education. In the same order, there are plans to make a 4-year BEd or 4-year Integrated Teachers Education Program (ITEP) degree mandatory from the year 2030.

Pilot project of 4 year BEd program in 41 universities

             Under the recommendations of the National Education Program (NEP) 2020, the qualifications of teachers from Kindergarten to Class 12 have been determined. Which includes BA-BEd, BSc-BEd and BCom-BEd. Currently, a 4-year BEd program is being launched in a pilot project in 41 universities from the academic session 2023-24. The National Testing Agency will open the online application window for this National Common Entrance Exam next week. National Council of Teacher Education (NCETE) is starting a 4 year BEd program as per NEP 2020 recommendations.

Criteria for seeking admission

             Those who appear in the entrance exam will get admission in the course on the basis of merit. A new education model will be designed to teach this new BEd program in a new way. For which applications will be invited from the University for a 4-year ITEP pilot project for the session of 2024-25.
