Adity L1 Mission: Mission Suryayan: Adity L1 Mission i.e. Mission Suryayan was launched on September 2 from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. Recently, an amazing image of the Sun captured by Adity L1’s state-of-the-art camera has been shared. You have never seen such pictures of the sun before.
Adity L1 Mission
The Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) aboard the Aditya-L1 spacecraft by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has captured the first full-disk images of the Sun based on near-ultraviolet wavelengths. The remarkable achievement, shared on Friday, marks an important milestone in solar observation and research.
These images cover the wavelength range of 200 to 400 nanometers. It provides unprecedented information about the Sun’s photosphere and chromosphere. The visible ‘surface’ of the Sun is called the photosphere, while the transparent layer immediately above it is called the chromosphere.
These layers of the Sun are considered important for understanding various solar phenomena including sunspots and flares. Which has a profound effect on space weather and Earth’s climate. Aditya-L1 was launched into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) by an Indian rocket, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-XL (PSLV-XL), from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota on 2 September.
The total journey from launch to L1 will take Aditya-L1 about four months and the distance from Earth will be approximately 1.5 million km. ISRO said that ‘Aditya-L1’ is the first space-based observatory to study the Sun. It is studying the Sun from the halo around the Lagrangian point ‘L1’, located about 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.
