On 1 February 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the last budget of the second term of the Modi government.  Lok Sabha elections will be held after the interim budget.  So the government can make big advertisements to attract the employed salaried people.  Government employees have been demanding to increase the fitment factor for a long time.  So if this increases, the basic salary of the employees will increase.

 At present the fitment factor is 2.57 percent.  It means that suppose a person gets a basic salary of Rs 15,500 in 4200 grade pay, his total salary will be Rs 15,500 × 2.57 = Rs 39,835.  The employees' association is demanding to increase the fitment factor to 3.68.  After this increase, the minimum wage will increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000.
