The INSPIRE AWARD-MANAK scheme is a national competition to encourage innovative ideas of students and bring them into reality. It is organized by Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi and National Innovation Foundation (NIF), Gandhinagar. Students from class 6 to 10 can participate in this competition.

The objective of this scheme is to promote creativity and innovative original thinking among children studying in classes 6 to 10 of the school. These innovative ideas are not only from the field of science and mathematics but can be from any field. Like, Science and Technology, Mathematics, Swachh Bharat, Swasht Bharat, Make in India, Startup India, Digital India, Agriculture, Environment, Problems related to occupation of child’s parents, Social order, Simplification of daily problems and various Areas such as expansion of government initiatives are included. The scheme aims to accommodate 1 million innovative ideas from across the country every year.

The format of this competition starts from school level to national level. In which students first submit their new original innovative ideas to their teacher or principal at the school level. All the ideas received at the school level are reviewed by the principal and the science teacher and the best five latest ideas are selected and these ideas are nominated from the school ID on the INSPIRE AWARD-MANAK website. Out of all the ideas nominated, the best one lakh new ideas from across the country are selected by NIF every year and the student presenting the idea gets Rs. 10000/- is awarded by DST as an award. This amount is directly credited to the student’s bank account.

The selected student then has to make a model based on their idea, which has to be presented at the District Level Exhibition (DLPC). The best 10% ideas from the district level competition are selected and sent to participate in the state level exhibition. Out of all the models exhibited at the state level, 10% of the best ideas are selected and they participate in the national level exhibition. A total of 60 ideas are selected at the national level, which are presented at the Festival of Innovation organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. These finished models are evaluated based on the novelty of the ideas, social usefulness, practicality, and environmental friendliness.

Students of class 6 to 10 of all government, aided and independent schools can nominate themselves through the school for this competition. The more students nominated from the district, the higher the chances of getting the award.

In order to nominate students in the inspireawards-standard scheme, the school needs to be registered at inspireawards-dst.gov.in. After the registration of the school, the student can be enrolled during the period as announced by the DST. The entire process is very simple.
