The Ministry of Education and the Government of India launched the APAAR ID card in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to provide unique ID numbers to school pupils across India.

The APAAR ID, also known as the 'One Nation One Student ID Card', will benefit all students because it will digitally transfer their complete academic data, such as prizes, degrees, scholarships, and other credits. 


APAAR Full Form 

The full name of APAAR ID is the 'Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry'. The Government of India established the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC Bank) to issue APAAR ID cards. This card functions as an education ecosystem register, often known as a 'EduLocker.' 




How is APAAR ID Card Help Students 

The Ministry of Education launched the APAAR ID card, a digital ID card for students enrolled in private and government institutions or universities across India. The APAAR ID card allows students to access their academic credits, degrees, and other information online.

The APAAR ID card is a permanent ID number that tracks students' academic progress and achievements and facilitates transfer from one institution to another. This card will be distributed by schools and institutions to all students enrolled in pre-primary through higher education. The APAAR card will be issued in addition to the pupils' existing Aadhaar ID. 


Students can download their APAAR cards after completing the enrollment process. The APAAR card will contain the unique 12-digit APAAR number, which students can use to access all benefits and maintain academic data. The One Nation One Student ID card will also be connected to the children's Aadhaar card numbers. The APAAR ID is a big step towards a more coordinated and accessible academic experience for students. 

How to Register for APAAR ID Card? 

To register for APAAR ID, students must have a valid Aadhaar card and create an account on DigiLocker, which will be used for e-KYC. Schools and colleges must start the registration for APAAR ID cards for their students only after obtaining the parent's consent, and parents can withdraw their consent at any time. Schools and colleges should provide the children with a format form, which the parents should fill out and submit.

Follow the steps mentioned below to register for APAAR Id card - 

Step 1: Visit the Academic Bank of Credits' (ABC Bank) website. 

Step 2: Click on 'My Account' and then 'Student'. 

Step 3: To create a DigiLocker account, click 'Sign up' and input your cellphone number, address, and Aadhaar card details. 

Step 4: Log in to your DigiLocker account using the credentials. 

Step 5: DigiLocker will ask for your permission to share the Aadhaar card information with ABC for KYC verification. Choose 'I agree'. 

Step 6: Enter academic information such as the name of the school or university, the class or course, and so on. 

Step 7: Once you submit the form, the APAAR ID card will be generated. 


How to Download APAAR ID Card 

Follow the steps mentioned below to download APAAR ID Card - 

Step 1: Log in to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC Bank) website. 

Step 2: On the dashboard, locate and select the 'APAAR card download' option. 

Step 3: The APAAR card will display on the screen. 

Step 4: Select the download or print option. 

Step 5: The APAAR card will be downloaded.

  1. The APAAR ID card serves as a student's lifelong identity number, allowing them to track their academic progress and achievements smoothly. 
  2. The APAAR number will track students' academic records at all levels, including school, degree college, junior college, and post-graduation. 
  3. The APAAR ID card will digitally keep student data in one location, including learning outcomes, test results, report cards, health cards, and co-curricular achievements such as Olympiad rankings, specialist skill training, and so on.  
  4. It is useful to maintain track of students who drop out so that the government can make attempts to reintegrate them into society and reconnect them with educational opportunities.  
  5. It will help a student transition from one institution to another by containing all their academic information. As a result, gaining admission to a new college anywhere in the country will be a breeze.  
  6. The APAAR ID will be linked directly to the ABC Bank. Thus, when a student completes a semester or course, the credits are directly recorded in the ABC, making them valid across all Indian colleges. 
  7. It will digitally centralise academic data such as scholarships, degrees, awards, and other student credentials.  
  8. The APAAR card provides complete information about a student. It includes information on the student's name, address, date of birth, gender, photo, sports activities, education loans, scholarships, awards, and so on.
